Kathleen Muttart

Obituary of Kathleen Muttart

Kathleen (Kathy) Muttart November 29, 1948 – November 29, 2017 At St. Paul’s Hospital on the date of her 69th birthday, Kathy died embraced by her partner of 40 years, Terri Lohela, cherished niece Marianne Coulibaly, and spouse, Corey Hart. Kathy was born in Toronto, and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta, until the end of Grade 8 when her family moved to Saskatoon. Here she completed high school and her Bachelor of Arts degree (University of Saskatchewan) before moving to Moose Jaw to work at Brown Homes, a residential treatment center for children and youth. There she met Graham Dove whom she married for a number of years. Returning to Saskatoon, Kathy worked at Radius Tutoring Project and undertook further studies at U. of S. to receive her Bachelor of Education, and later, Master of Education Degrees. Her specialties were Psychology and Education of Exceptional Children which laid the foundation for a satisfying career as a Consultant, Registered Psychologist, and Coordinator of Special Education with Saskatchewan Valley School Division and its later amalgamated formation, Prairie Spirit School Division. She retired in 2006. From her parents Kathy grew up learning how to build, improve, and maintain homes; and, throughout her life, she employed her skills at her homes and cabins as hobby and necessity. Needing to be inside or sedentary was anathema to Kathy even if she was an avid reader and self-professed “news junkie.” She loved being out of doors and enjoyed the natural world in gardening, birding, camping, canoeing, and rambling around Saskatchewan on back roads and less traveled trails. In her retirement Kathy enjoyed the freedom to structure her own time and to travel with Terri in the U. S. and Canada. As well they journeyed to some warm locales during the winter - Cuba once, West Africa twice, and Mexico three times. The best part of going away was often the coming home. Kathy was happiest at home with family and her cat. She was thoughtful and considerate of others though did not suffer fools gladly. Logical, loyal, and ethical – Kathy could be the moral compass for those around her. Kathy was energetic, strong, and healthy experiencing the first sign of illness in July, 2017. Four months later, she died from cancer. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Lloyd Muttart and Anne Jean Kippen Muttart. On the Muttart side she is survived by her sister Christine Coulibaly (Raymond Coulibaly) of Bamako, Mali; brother Davis “Kip” Muttart (Barb Hodgson); niece Caroline Coulibaly (Rodney Grimard). On the Lohela side, Kathy is survived by Terri’s sister Janet Good (David Good) of Dearborn, Michigan; sister Gail Lohla of Portland, Oregon; brother Kevin Lohela of Minneapolis; nephew Christopher Good of Michigan, niece Leslie Good of Oregon, niece Marcelle Good (Bob van Pelt) of New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatoon Community Clinic Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
