Obituary of Doris Hobson

Doris Gertrude Hobson 22nd October 1921 – 1st February 2018 Doris Gertrude Hobson passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Thursday 1st February 2018 at St. Paul’s Hospital. She was born to Henry and Margaret Goslin on 22nd October 1921, the fifth of six children, in Dublin Ireland. On 17th August 1946, Doris married John Leo Hobson and they shared 66 happy years together. In fact, Leo passed away on their 66th wedding anniversary. Left to remember Doris are sons David (Nancy) Hobson and Basil (Jeannine) Hobson, grandchildren Jeremy Hobson and Jessica Hobson, sister Phyllis Goslin and many nieces and nephews in Ireland, England, Australia and Canada. Doris was predeceased by her husband Leo Hobson, her father and mother Henry and Margaret Goslin, her brothers Harry, Reginald, and Cecil, her sister Martha in Ireland and Leo’s brother Albert and his wife Peggy in Australia. In 1953 Doris and Leo packed up their family and left their beloved Ireland to move to Saskatoon SK. where Doris devoted her time and energy to creating a home for her husband and two sons. Doris still made time to garden (had the largest patch of potatoes in the neighbourhood), sew (made all her own clothing and some of Leo’s) , knit, crochet, needlepoint, for her craft group - the Busy Bees, and with her husband shared a love of round dancing in both Saskatoon and their winter home in Arizona. In their retirement years, Doris and Leo returned to visit family in Ireland and also visited Albert and Peggy in Australia. Whenever relatives from overseas would visit, Mom assumed the responsibility for introducing them to Canada, the country of which she was so proud. For many years Doris and Leo spent the winter months in Mesa Arizona. When their travels south came to an end, they moved into a condominium in downtown Saskatoon. They enjoyed their strolls on the Meewasin Trail and sitting in their condo watching the geese and boats on the river below. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at The Palisades Intermediate Care Home for their loving care over the past two years and also a big thank you to the doctors and nurses on St Paul’s Hospital 6th floor Med for their kindness and professionalism during Mom’s month long stay in January 2018. Thank you to St Andrew’s pastoral care for their visits to Mom while in hospital. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church 436 Spadina Cres. E. would be much appreciated
