Darlene Knapp

Obituary of Darlene Knapp

It is with great sadness that the family of Darlene announces her passing after a long battle with cancer and auto-immune disease. Darlene is survived by her husband of 44 years, Gordon; her children Lindsey (Simone) Knapp and Sheri (Jason) Willick and her granddaughters Shayla and Kiara Willick and Ada Knapp. She is survived by her father Steven Dopko, brothers Harold (Judie) Dopko, Rick (Judy) Dopko, sisters Theresa Dopko and Lorrie (Rob) Smith, as well as her sister-in-law Ninna MacCormack. She is predeceased by her mother, Jean (Fedorchuk) Dopko and her parents-in-law Clarence and Dawn Knapp. Darlene grew up on the Dopko family farm near Plunkett, SK, and attended high-school at the St. Ursula Academy in Bruno, while living with her cousins. She met Gord while working at SaskTel and they were married in 1971. When both of their children entered elementary school, Darlene began a long career with the Saskatoon Catholic Schools. After she retired in 2008, Darlene and Gord spent a lot of time travelling with family and friends. Darlene made friends easily and felt that many of her friends were an extension of her family. She often mentioned that not only was she lucky to have siblings that she enjoyed spending time with, but that she was also lucky to have so many sisters of the heart! Please join the family in the funeral mass and celebration of Darlene's life at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Philip Neri Parish located at 1902 Munroe Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or Lupus SK Society Inc.
