James Foster

June 28, 1938 — March 23, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved James "Boyd" Foster, who passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025 at the age of 86 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was born to parents John and Francis Foster on June 28, 1938 in Watrous Saskatchewan.

Boyd was predeceased by his parents John and Francis and siblings Douglas, Ivan, Bernie, Shirley, Audrey and Donald.

Remaining to cherish Boyd's memory, is his wife Vera whom he was married to for 58 years and his four daughters: Susan Mamer and partner Scott, Marla Fernandes and partner Henry, Nancy Whalen, Natalie Fontaine and partner Wade. He is also survived by his grandchildren Adam (Ali), Emily (Garrett), Benjamin (Hannah), Sophie, Libby, Tavin and great grandchildren River, Lily, Wren and Velzy.

Boyd served the province of Saskatchewan with distinction as an electrician with Sask Power for 27 years. Post retirement, he embarked on a new secondary career as a professional driver for the Prairie Spirit School Division for 20 years where he provided the children a safe and positive ride. Throughout his working life, Boyd exhibited an exceptional work ethic, tireless devotion and commitment to his employers and colleagues. He often volunteered his personal time outside of work to assist family and friends with electrical projects.

Boyd began his hockey journey as a young man and never lost his enthusiasm for the game. He continued to lace up his skates right up until the age of 69 spending many years as an active member of the Old Timers hockey league where he enjoyed the camaraderie that each game brought. Hockey was a place where he formed life long friendships that extended way beyond the locker room.

Boyd also developed a deep love for the game of golf early in life, and it became one of his greatest joys. Known for his competitive spirit, stickler to the rules of play, and unwavering determination; he spent countless hours on the course always striving to improve his game. He passed down his passion for golf to his family, who often joined him on the course, especially at the Foster Classic family golf tournaments.

Boyd also had a deep love for history and aviation often watching or reading about world wars and even keeping tabs on FlightAware watching airplanes coming and going. He enjoyed playing the lottery, always hoping for that big win. You could find him watching hockey, baseball, golf and Roughrider games. He enjoyed discussing and analyzing the latest games with friends and family.

Boyd was a devoted family man whose love for his family knew no bounds. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. As a husband, father and grandfather he showed unwavering dedication and care, always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own. His home was a place of warmth, laughter and love and the door was always open to those who needed it. His daughter's friends were no exception; they were embraced as part of the family. He found immense fulfillment in the happiness and well being of those closest to him. Boyd's family was the center of his world, and he leaves behind a legacy of love through the lessons he taught us. He will live on not only through his own family but through the countless friends who were fortunate enough to experience his laughter, love, positivity and his many "Boydisms".

There are not enough words to express all the great attributes Boyd exemplified, but if you are reading this and you had the pleasure to meet him in person, then there is no question that he was an extraordinary down to earth human being.

Boyd's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff of the 5th floor Medicine Close Observation unit and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's hospital for the compassionate care and support they provided during Boyd's final days. We will always be grateful for the dignity, warmth and peace that was provided.

A Celebration of life in honour of Boyd will be held at a later date.

Rest in Peace Boydo.
