It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce Olive Granberg, who peacefully left us on November 14th, 2024, at Saskatoon City Hospital, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.
Joyce was born in Canwood, Saskatchewan, on January 31st, 1941, to Mabel Luella (Skaros) Pearson and Sven Reynold Pearson. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, John; daughters Patricia, Myrna (Martin); granddaughters Jamie (Tyler) their children Axel and Lucy, Leslie (Landon) their son Brooks, Lain (Matthew); her brother Wayne (Yvonne) Pearson, sister Reta (Dennis) Anderson, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Norman Wayne, as well as her parents, in-laws, and several siblings-in-law.
Family, friends, and community were at the heart of Joyce's life. She grew up on the family farm in Canwood, SK, where she helped her father, Sven, with the farm chores from an early age. Joyce and John lived in Saskatoon, then Kamloops from 1983 to 1991, before returning to Saskatchewan to build their retirement home at Little Amyot Lake. The two of them lived there until 2022 and then moved back to Saskatoon.
Joyce was known for her cooking, love of crocheting, reading, and loved listening to Charley Pride. She also took great pride in her appearance, particularly her nails. Joyce cherished her time with family and friends and participated in softball, curling, and bowling. She enjoyed watching hockey and curling and going to the rink to watch her granddaughters play ringette.
Joyce was very well travelled, visiting many places across Canada with family or to support and watch her granddaughters play ringette. She also made three memorable trips to Sweden and Norway to connect with extended family and visited India three times while accompanying John on his work travels. One of her cherished memories was spending Christmas in Mexico with family in 2014.
Joyce was truly the best mother, grandmother, and friend anyone could have asked for. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. We love you, Joyce
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ali Rajput Endowment for Parkinson's Disease. A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring of 2025. Further details will be shared in the new year.
