Mary Oleynick

1924 — July 18, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Oleynick on July 18, 2015, at St Paul’s Palliative Care, after a brief battle with cancer. Verna was born in Saskatoon, SK, November 6, 1924. As a young woman she served 3 years as a Corporal in the Armed Forces during World War II. Verna was employed at the Hotel Bessborough as a chambermaid and it was there that she met her lifelong companion. Nick and Verna were married for 53 years. Verna is fondly remembered for her gift of gab. Friends and family were very important to her. Verna had many interests including bowling and doing activities with her children. She spent many years taking her kids to ball games. Verna always looked forward to travelling to Vancouver Island to see her eldest son Dave and family and her sister Phyllis and family. Verna is survived by her children Dave (Joy) of Nanaimo, BC, Garry of Leroy, SK, Gail (Leo) Adamowski of Saskatoon, SK and Rob (Pamela) of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren Debbie, Sherrie, Nick, Amanda and Ryan; great grandchildren Wesley, Makayla, Jasmine, Nixon, Emily, Oliver, Jaxon and Chase; sister Phyllis Hanley, brother Ken (Linda) Roy and sister-in-law Molly Roy; numerous nieces and nephews.
