McLellan, Sharon
September 16, 1941 - March 15, 2025
Sharon's family is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Sharon was born in Geraldton, ON and spent her early years in Borden, SK and Langham, SK before moving to Perdue, SK. Sharon married Lloyd McLellan in 1960 and together they owned and operated Perdue and District Foods until moving to Lakeview Farm, just north of Perdue.
Many happy years were spent on the farm where they had a mixed farming operation. Sharon took great pride in her massive gardens and fruit orchard which she made sure there were fruits and vegetables stored and canned until the following harvest season. Many folks came to the McLellan farm to pick raspberries, apples and plums. All of her kids remember having to weed, shell peas, tip and tail beans for hours at which time there was a fulfilled promise of going to the lake or Eagle Creek pool.
Before "organic" was a thing, she raised grain-fed chickens and turkeys and had customers from the city putting in their annual orders. Butchering chickens was a highlight for many, not all though, especially the McLellan cousins. Sausage making was right up there and Sharon even made sausages this past January. Truly a hardworking lady.
Sharon and Lloyd were blessed with the birth of their daughter Shannon in 1962, twin boys Kim and Kelly in 1965 and daughter Sharlene in 1968. Sharon and Lloyd's home was the focal point for many gatherings for family and friends over the years, particularly after senior hockey games in Perdue where singing, piano playing and some beverages and her fresh baked buns were consumed until the wee hours of the morning. Sharon loved cooking, music, dancing and also loved watching curling, hockey, rodeo (especially bull riding and chuckwagon races) and of course, the Blue Jays. If you were sitting beside her at hockey, bull riding or the chucks, you often were the brunt of her excitement as she grabbed or hit you with a whoop or gasp.
She also was an avid crocheter having made many creations, especially afghans and baby blankets for everyone. She truly loved cooking and baking for her family and others. You could count on her to make buns for any occasion and even making batches of dough so it could be cooked over campfires and enjoyed by so many. We all loved it when we would get that call to stop in, as she had made a pot of hamburger soup, cinnamon buns, dumplings, orange chiffon cake, lemon loaf and the list could go on and on.
Anything that was made of wood she would have refinished it, from kitchen cupboards, tables to a player piano. She was not afraid to tackle anything and painted many parts of our homes. She would much rather garden, bake, cook, clean, or refinish items as she hated shopping, unless it was for groceries. However, she was always up for supper at Granada or lunch at Taco Time and loved just a hot dog over a campfire!
When not gardening or baking, she also worked at St. Paul's hospital for many years. She also enjoyed meeting new people both when she resided at Oliver Place and the past two years at Luther Tower. She enjoyed bingo, rocks and rings, cards, any musical entertainment and it was not too hard to coax her into playing a tune or two on the piano for the enjoyment of others.
Although mom worked hard, she played hard too! We have many memories that we will treasure of times spent together, such as travelling by motorhome to Disneyland, Las Vegas and across Canada to the Maritimes and then back through the states. Endless trips to the mountains, hot springs and many lakes where fishing was a must so we could have a fish fry. Mom was not a swimmer - nor was dad - but we laugh now as they would make us test our life jackets in the middle of the lake before we could go water skiing...if they didn't work, we're not certain what their plan was to save us!
Travelling with mom and dad to Russia, Finland and Sweden in 1985 with dad's hockey team was also special.
Mom lost the love of her life when dad passed on March 23, 1991 while dancing with her. We knew this broke her heart and she did her best to ensure all of her kids were okay. She treasured the moments with all of us but we knew it was hard for her. We truly are comforted to know that they have been reunited again and once again are dancing up a storm together and catching up with each other in Heaven.
It's impossible to share the many memories we have been left with. In mom's final days, she was described as cute, so sweet, spicy - we also added stubborn and persistent. She was all of that and a loving, caring mom who supported us even in her final days, even asking "why are you crying, it is what it is" and wiped our tears. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by all of her family.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: daughter, Shannon Harms; Chad (Jody), Jackson, and Tyson; Ashley (Carlos), Jake, and Rosalee; Troy (Shelby); son, Kim (Sharon) McLellan; Douglas; Victoria (Scott), Nikolai; Patricia (Terrence), Theodore; daughter, Sharlene (Blair) Duquette; Shayla (Steven); Derek (Hailey); as well as many nieces and nephews. Sharon is predeceased by her
husband, Lloyd; infant son, Kelly; her parents, Harold and Dorothy Bracken; in-laws, Lorne and Mary McLellan; Don (June) McLellan; Dave McLellan; Larry (Shirley) McLellan; Marilyn Rice; Keith Rice; and Clarence Harms. She is also remembered by many close friends, with whom she enjoyed many good times over the years.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, ER nurses, and medical team at RUH and the staff at Luther Tower for their care and concern.
It was Sharon's wish to not have a funeral, however her family will have a private family interment which will take place in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Leney Cemetery or Cosmopolitan Industries, Saskatoon.
