Genevieve, known to most of us as “Genny”, died peacefully at Samaritan Place in Saskatoon on March 11, 2025. Born in Colonsay, Sask. on November 8, 1926, Genny grew up on the farm. She was the 10th child of a family of fourteen.
In 1956, Genny joined the Sisters of Mission Service. She did domestic work until she pursued her studies to become a certified Nursing Assistant and graduated in 1967. She nursed at R.U.H. and St Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon. In 1975 she moved to Regina and worked at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. In 1989, Genny retired from her nursing profession. In 1997, she returned to Saskatoon and did Pastoral Care ministry at St Paul's Hospital. In 2018, due to declining health, Genny moved to Samaritan Place where she resided until her death.
One of Genny’s greatest dreams was to live up to a hundred until more health issues appeared then she was heard saying very recently: “I am asking God to take me but He is doing nothing about it!” – until God did on March 11!
Genny will be remembered for her keen mind, her great determination and resilience, for how her faith sustained her in difficult moments, for her closeness to family members and Religious Community, her artistic ability and for the obvious delight she experienced when playing cards and won which was most of the time!
Surviving to cherish her memory are: her Religious Community, her sister Loretta, sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents, twelve siblings, some in-laws and some nephews and nieces.
The Sisters of Mission Service and Sister Genevieve's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Samaritan Place for the compassionate care given to Sister Genny over the past 7 years.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at St. Philip Neri RC Parish (1902 Munroe Ave S, Saskatoon).
