1946 Zak 2025

Zak Kutz

January 14, 1946 — March 28, 2025

On March 28, 2025, the world lost a caring, kind, and courageous human being.

Zak was born and spent most of his life in Saskatoon. He and his two sisters (Genessa and Reva) and his parents (Joanne and "Boiche") lived in several areas of the city and finally settled on Broadway Avenue near John Lake School.

Zak lived his life by his own rules. He was incredibly loving, totally outspoken, very quick witted, wickedly funny, and wonderfully kind. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends and believed we were put on this earth to love each other and protect animals. Zak hated any type of injustice and was enraged with the current world situation.

Zak loved any type of adventure. He loved to travel especially to the Maritimes, Toronto (go Blue Jays!), and Radium Hot Springs. He spent many hours being the perfect passenger on road trips in Saskatchewan - honking at ducks, taking pointing photos, and finding new and exciting little stores everywhere. There was always a picnic.

Music and movies were two of his many passions. He enjoyed listening to his friends play and loved singing in choirs including singing in a Christmas production at Persephone Theatre with several friends. He introduced many people to his favourite artists, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Brian Ferry, Lucinda Williams and many more. He loved live concerts and was able to see many of his favourite performers including David Bowie and, of course, Bob Dylan. He loved movies, especially westerns. Zak spent most of his youth watching movies at the Roxy and was somewhat of an expert on movies from the 50s to the 70s. Zak loved to talk with his friends about movies he had seen. He had no time for bad movies and was very vocal about that. He had also worked on a couple of movies and independent video productions and enjoyed it immensely. He was a man of many talents.

Most of all, Zak loved his animals - in fact, all animals. He was constantly waiting for the "cat distribution" system to pick him. He rescued several cats from harm. Animals loved him. They recognized his kind heart and appreciated him.

Zak was predeceased by his son Sasha, his sister Reva, his parents, and many of his close friends. To Zak, death was not an end of things but a beginning of something new. He firmly believed that the good people do was never lost when they died - it was always around us.

Zak did not want a funeral or fuss after his death. He wanted to be remembered for his kindness and firm principles. If you wish to honour his memory, please send a donation to SCAT to help out the animals he loved.

Good bye, Zak. Thanks for giving us your gifts of love and kindness. We will miss your tender heart.
