Violet Anderson

Obituary of Violet Alice Anderson

Violet Alice Anderson (nee Cain) passed away at the age of 86, in Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre, on September 21, 2015 after a brief illness. Vi will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Doug (Jacqueline) and Bruce (Frances); grandchildren Jeremy (Logan), Louise, Faye (Brant), Marian (Olivier) and Nicholas; great grandchildren Rowynn, Nora and Jasper; sister Phyllis (Earl) Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her dog Brandy. Vi grew up in Saskatoon and attended Wilson Elementary School, City Park Collegiate and Technical Collegiate. She had quite a sporting career. In the late 1940’s she was a power forward basketball player with the Adilman Aces and a catcher with the Saskatoon Ramblers fastball team. She was also a Ladies Provincial Champion Trap Shooter in the 1960’s. She married J.C. (Andy) Anderson on February 18, 1950. She worked for the Underwood Typewriter Company, the Canadian Red Cross and worked tirelessly with her husband in their marine dealership: Westside Service & Marine Ltd. They sold their business and retired in 1978. Vi and Andy spent many winters in Arizona golfing, trap shooting and searching for bargains at the local flea markets. After Andy’s passing in 1998, Vi’s true independent nature came out. She went on many adventures in her Pleasure-Way van with her dog; driving to Alaska, Arizona and across Canada. Vi enjoyed many activities with her Saskatoon friends; playing bridge, events with the Red Hat Society and lunches with the Aces. Her greatest joy was watching her grand-children grow into caring adults and being around to enjoy her three great-grandchildren. Her protective nature and never ending sense of humor will be missed by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Funeral

There will be a celebration of Vi’s life on October 10 from 11AM until 1PM, at the Edwards Family Centre on Fourth Avenue (parking will be available across the street at the Saskatoon Funeral Home parking lot). Lunch will be provided.
