Blanche Raskob

Obituary of Blanche Anne Raskob

Blanche Anne Raskob (nee Lemmerick) passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on July 13, 2018 with family at her side.  She is survived by her son Brian (Diane), daughters Beverly (Ralph Schultz), Brenda (Mark Dinsmore), daughter-in-law Gail Dickson, grandchildren Colin Raskob (Caro Ricard), Jana Raskob (Nels Pederson), Samuel and Lucas Schultz (Kirsten Hildebrand), Max and Rowen Dinsmore, Alec Raskob (Jesse Ghashti) and Emily Dickson.  Great grandchildren Mariah and Beau Pederson and Abigail Dickson.  Brothers Clifford, Richard (Dolores), sisters Shirley Wolbaum and Fay Masse (Adrien) as well as numerous much-loved nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by Greg, her dear husband of 64 years and her beloved son, Bruce, her parents Richard and Anne Lemmerick and her brother Roger.

Blanche was born October 21, 1925 and enjoyed life on the farm at Muenster.  She was always happy to share her fond memories of her childhood. She was, in a way, a lady before her time, in that she worked on the farm in the summers and travelled to various areas in the U.S. and Canada in the winters to broaden her experiences.  One winter was spent in Vancouver working at the Boeing Aircraft Plant.

Blanche married Greg Raskob in 1950 in Muenster and lived in St Gregor until 1952 when they moved to Saskatoon with their infant son, Bruce.  With the arrivals of Brian, Bev and Brenda their family was complete.  The door was always open on Albert Avenue for friends and family.  Neighbourhood children were still popping in to visit them when they were well into their 80’s.  Blanche had the ability to host large gatherings with fabulous food that magically appeared.  She was legendary for a number of dishes, one specialty being her cabbage rolls which no one has been able to top.

Blanche and Greg enjoyed travelling and were fortunate to visit many spots in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.  After Greg’s retirement, they spent countless hours travelling, pursuing Greg’s passion for photography.  Having bought Dad his first 35mm camera Mom was his biggest supporter and together they preserved the history of the Prairies with Greg’s many photo collections including barns, homesteads, churches and the fast disappearing grain elevators.

After Dad’s passing in 2014 Mom moved to Trinity Manor where she enjoyed meeting many new friends.  Mom spent the last two years at Circle Drive Special Care Home where she received wonderful care from the compassionate and caring staff.  The family cannot thank them enough for providing such loving care to Mom.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that, for those so wishing, donations be made to Circle Drive Special Care Home, 3055 Preston Avenue, Saskatoon SK S7T 1C3.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, July 23, 2018 at St Philip Neri Roman Catholic Parish (1902 Munroe Ave, Saskatoon).
