SIKORSKI, Walter

May 17, 1933 - September 16, 2018

Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Walter Sikorski at the age of 85 years at St. Paul's Hospital due to declining health this past year.  He was born May 17, 1933, at Fish Creek (Laniwici) to Peter Sikorski and Annie Holubetz.  He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary, Peter, Tony, and Penny.

He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife, Sonja, of 62 years.  His 5 children and 11 grandchildren.  Melodee (Warren, Kurtis, Carrie), Cindy & Larry (Cody, Cole), Shawn & Bob (Katrina, Alex), Wally & Brenda (Stacey, Corey, Callie), Warren & Sherry (Brianne) and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn a very supporting and loving brother, Bob (Robert) and sister in law Toni Sikorsky.

Walter lost his Father and 2 siblings at a very young age. Thus, having his Mother and 3 siblings start a new life in Saskatoon yet they were able to keep the original homestead in which was acknowledged this year with the Century Family Farm Award.  This was the beginning of Walter's hard work ethic.

In his teen years, he moved to Vancouver to pursue work, and this is where he met the love of his life, Sonja.  After having their first 2 children in Vancouver, they moved back to Saskatoon which became their home and completed their family of 5.

Walter was a salesman in his early years at Mckenzie Auto.  Sales came naturally to Walter, and he always found pleasure in making a sale.  In 1969, he started a wholesale automotive partnership and a few years later became the sole owner of Walker's Auto & Body Supplies Ltd.  Walter was a rigorous and hard working man who excelled and grew his business to multiple locations. His hard working trait was passed onto his children. Walter enjoyed fishing, hunting and time spent at their family cabin at Wakaw Lake and the farm at Fish Creek.  Sonja and Walter shared a passion for gardening and working hard to provide for their family.  After his retirement in 1989, he enjoyed some traveling, trips to the casino, bowling, and gardening.  Later, his life became simpler, but two things always remained, his strong work ethic and his devoted wife by his side.  A Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at the Chapel of the Saskatoon Funeral Home.
