Allan Brown

Obituary of Allan Brown

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad and grandpa.  Allan passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital with family and friends at his side.  Left to mourn him are his loving wife of 63 years, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous family members and many good friends.

Allan was born in the Langham District & attended Epp School.  He was a fantastic athlete, earning ribbons and medals in track & field, baseball and hockey.  Allan farmed full time for forty years.  He was a meticulous farmer; his cereal crops and Hereford cattle were of the highest quality.  He spent the rest of his years helping to continue that work with his son, and grandson on the family farm.  He called daily for the weather and crop reports, and often came out to see what was going on, crop tour with various friends, pick rocks or roots by hand, or enjoy a ride in the machinery.

Allan loved his family and friends deeply.  He showed his family by being our biggest supporter and cheerleader.  Over the years he attended many games, matches or activities that “his kids” were participating in, and he always greeted us with a warm hug.  Allan had many friends; they were often introduced as, “this is my really good friend ________”.  He shared many fond memories, meals, coffee dates, and outings with them.  They were always welcomed with a warm smile and a firm handshake.

Allan will be remembered as a hard worker and a great friend.  He always wore a smile, had time for a visit, a cup of coffee or a good joke.  Most of his stories and jokes began with, “Have you heard the one about…” or “Did I ever tell you this one…”  He was generous and kind, often donating his time, talents and what he could to various charities and organizations.  His love and legacy of Family, Friendship and Farming will live on in us.

Allan remained humble, kind and strong in his final days at St. Paul’s.  He was always respectful, polite and gracious to the staff and they often said they really enjoyed working with him.  We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Paul’s, especially his nurses on the 5th floor, surgical unit.

A celebration of Allan’s life will take place on Thursday, November 15th at 1:00 pm, at Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 - 4th Avenue North).  Lunch & fellowship will take place at the Edwards Family Centre following the service.

Donations in Allan’s memory can be made to Ronald McDonald’s House, the Children’s Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choosing.
