George Hahn

Obituary of George Frederick Hahn

George passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 16, 2019. Born April 5, 1929 in Grenfell, Sk. to Katherine and Jacob Hahn, George was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth of 64 years, brothers Victor, John, Albert, William, and sisters Martha and Rose; in-laws Dorothy and Jeff Hunter and Lois and Geoff Holthouse.  Left to mourn are daughter Denise; son Greg and his partner Nancy; grandchildren Jessica and Francis; brother Edward (Mavis); sisters Alma and Dora and numerous nieces and nephews.

George's lengthy working career included employment at Powell's Hardware, Grenfell Co-op, and the Windsor Theatre which he owned and operated for many years.  As George was quite the entertainer himself, he thoroughly enjoyed the movie business.  In his retirement years after having obtained his real estate license, he worked for Century 21. He was a well-respected member of the Town Council, Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations.  George was noted for his kind heartedness, his sense of humour, wonderful tenor voice and the ability to play guitar, piano, organ, banjo and drums.  He loved to fish and eagerly shared stories that went with his fishing 'successes'.  He was a wonderful husband and father who kept us in stitches with his pranks.

The family wishes to thank the Grenfell and District Pioneer Home and Parkridge Centre Care Home for their excellent care of George over the past 3 years. A celebration of George's life will be held at Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell, Sk. in the spring and will be announced at a later date. Donations in his name may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Grenfell or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577).
