Lorraine Wauters

Obituary of Lorraine Dorothy Wauters

Lorraine Wauters, 87, died peacefully April 18 in Saskatoon.

Born in 1931 on a farm near Yellowgrass, Lorraine lived all her life in Saskatchewan, leaving only to follow her husband Al for training in the Armed Forces and service with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Germany.

Lorraine had a green thumb that extended past her shoulder. She loved to garden and could resurrect almost any houseplant family or friends gave her to tend. Her handicrafts and hobbies were varied and creative, and the banners she created for the LWML and church were works of art.

A “normal school” graduate, Lorraine was proud to have taught all grades in a one-room schoolhouse and then in various schools throughout southern Saskatchewan. A life-long learner, Lorraine continued to take classes at UofS while teaching in Kerrobert.

Her grandchildren remember Lorraine’s sweet tooth, and how she loved to make new desserts. She also shared her gardening skills, evident in many family gardens and flower beds. All of her family gives thanks for Lorraine’s life and the many things she taught us.

Lorraine will be remembered by her son Doug and wife Brenda of Barriere, BC; daughter Susan and husband Bruce Ehlert of Sherwood Park, AB; grandchildren Mitch, Sheri, Brian, Tanya, Trisha, and Katey, along with their partners, and five great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service is planned for this summer. Memorials can be made to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or any charity of your choice.
