Obituary of Gereen Fay Schumacher

SCHUMACHER, Gereen Fay

Surrounded by family Gereen Fay Schumacher (Little) passed away peacefully on April 26, 2019, in Saskatoon at the age of 78. Gereen was the first born to Gerald and Palma Little on September 14th, 1940. Gereen grew up on the family farm just outside of Spalding and attended school in both Spalding and Naicam.

The years immediately following high school were busy. Right after graduation, Gereen moved to Moose Jaw to complete her Psychiatric Nursing Diploma and in 1960 she married her high school sweetheart, Ron. Together they were blessed with three sons, Bradly, Brian and Blair. The boys enjoyed their early childhood running around Churchbridge before the family moved to Regina, where Gereen was busy keeping track of her active crew. Gereen loved watching ball games, going to the skydive drop zone, and traveling the world with the Lions Band, meeting hundreds of kids along the way. With the family grown up, Gereen decided to move to an acreage outside of Humboldt. It was here that she could enjoy the outdoors and really put her green thumb to the test. With the yard becoming too much to look after, Gereen moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family, and where she would stay until her passing.

Gereen is survived by her sons: Bradly (Angela) of Saskatoon; Brian (Leanne) of Regina, grandchildren Justin, Kashtin and Lauren; Blair (Meagan) of Victoria, B.C. Siblings: Murray (Rita), JoAnn (Glen), Robert (Geri) and brother in-law Ralph, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Gereen is pre-deceased by her husband Ronald, parents Gerald and Palma, brother and sister in-laws Keroline (Jack), Bernice (Ken) and (Alice).

The family would like to thank staff at the Samaritan Place for providing outstanding care to our mom over the last number of years. Our mom’s last week of life was made easier in large part due to their thoughtfulness and calming presence. Special thanks to Allen and Marianne Hollman-Hall and Tyler Kinzel for lovingly taking care of Gereen in her final years.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Breast Cancer Research www.cancer.ca/en/donate/breast-cancer/?region=sk  A memorial to celebrate Gereen's life will be held at a later date.
