Harold Oleksyn

Obituary of Harold Nickolas Oleksyn

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Harold Nickolas Oleksyn announce his passing on Monday, Sept 9, 2019 in Saskatoon, SK at St. Paul’s Hospital. Harold will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife Debbie, son Shawn, mother –in-law Francis Baron, sister-in-law Barbara Wedewer (Reg), Linda Mann (Myles) and brother-in-law Russell Baron (Lawrence) and his numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and all other family and relatives. He was predeceased by his father Nick Oleksyn and mother Nettie Oleksyn nee Shewchuk and his sister Gloria Mueller (Mike).
Harold was born in Lepine, SK where he grew up and attended school. He left the family farm at age 17 and started working in construction for Quibel pipeline as a laborer. Through his lifetime of working he worked for Patrick Pipeline, Riverview Construction,  Interprovincial Concrete, Points  North, and  until his passing, Inland Aggregates where he was a heavy equipment operator, which he loved. He started his love of operating heavy equipment when he worked for Riverview Construction. He was a very hard, dedicated worker who appreciated a job well done. He  took over the family farm which he farmed for many years until he could no longer do it. He also liked to cook, especially barbequing and later on enjoyed fishing and bought himself a boat which unfortunately didn’t have it for too long to enjoy.  He also liked to go camping to enjoy the peace of the outdoors. He was a very happy friendly person who would strike up a conversation with anyone. He had the gift of gab. He loved a good joke and all our family gatherings filled with love, company and good fun! He met his wife Debbie in 1975 and they were married December 17, 1977. In may of 1981 we had our son Shawn who he loved very much and was very proud of. We would like to thank our family for all their support though this very trying time. We would also like to thank all the other friends for their support. We want to thank Dr. Ketiku for his care and Dr. Ogaick as well. Thank you to the nursing staff on 5th floor 5B and Palliative Care for their care of Harold. We would like to thank Reverend Father Taras  Makowsky and Saskatoon Funeral Home for their compassionate care.  Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday Evening September 13, 2019 and the Funeral Service will take place  at 10:00 a.m. Saturday September 14. Both services will be conducted by the Very Rev. Fr. Taras Makowsky at the Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Trinity Cathedral (919 20th Street West) Saskatoon, SK. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
