Mom was born and raised in the Hudson Bay area, attending school at Etomami Aspen School. Upon graduation she moved to Saskatoon and started her Nursing education from 1955 – 1958 at St. Paul’s Hospital. During this time she met the love of her life Ronald Lafreniere. They were married on January 31, 1959. Mom worked full time as a Nurse at Royal University Hospital as well as caring for and raising her family, she became the Nursing Unit Manager in Orthopedics.

Starting in 1987, schooling at nights for the next 5 years, she achieved her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Upon her retirement in 2001, Ron and Ida spent their retirement at the family cottage at Little Bear Lake, fishing and enjoying the companionship of their neighbors and friends. Mom enjoyed gardening and cooking. Her wonderful full-course Sunday suppers were much anticipated by family. Mom was a voracious reader, knowledgeable in all topics especially politics and enjoyed conversations on world events.

The family would like to thank the amazing Doctors, Nurses and Care Aids at Palliative Care, St. Paul’s Hospital. Their compassion and devotion to patients made mom’s journey a little easier. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
