Obituary of Beverley Caldwell

CALDWELL
Beverley Mae
(nee Billyard)
1935  -  2019

Beverley Mae Caldwell (nee Billyard) passed away peacefully after a brief illness on December 4, 2019.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years T. D. R. (Bobs) in March of 2019, and by her beloved daughter Janet in 2009.
Bev is survived by son Charles (Patricia) and grandsons Alex and Nick of Saskatoon; son Ted (Marne) of Ithaca, NY; and son Tom (Jeannette) of Regina. She is also survived by her sister Bette Burns (Michael) of Vancouver; brother Robert (Jennifer) of Mission; and brother Ken (Dorothy) of Cloverdale, BC; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bev was born in Yorkton in 1935, the eldest of four children of Jim and “Jimmie” Billyard. Jim worked in hardware sales, and the family moved to Dauphin, then Winnipeg, then Saskatoon - where Bev attended Nutana Collegiate, and where she met Bobs.
She attended nursing school at Saskatoon City Hospital, where she made many lifelong friends among her classmates. Bobs and Bev were married at Knox United Church in 1957, and soon moved to Regina, where she continued nursing and Bobs began his career with the Attorney General's Department. In 1962 they moved back to Saskatoon, to the home that they would enjoy for the next 57 years.
After raising four children, Bev continued her intellectual pursuits. She studied art and literature at the University of Saskatchewan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1985, on the same day that two of her children also convocated.
For many years she created art in her home studio. Much of her work features still life images of common objects such as vases, flowers and pears. Her works are lovingly displayed in the homes of family and friends across Canada.
Bev was very active in Saskatoon’s arts community, serving on many boards including the Mendel Art Gallery and the Women’s Symphony Committee. She and Bobs were life-long supporters of Knox United Church - among her other activities at Knox, Bev led a group that crafted the liturgical banners still featured in the sanctuary.
Bev and Bobs had an active social life, with friends from many spheres - including art, nursing, law, church, and music. Bev took great pleasure in providing a warm, welcoming, and aesthetically appealing home - which she was constantly redecorating and redesigning - for family, friends and pets. She will be remembered not only for her nurturing qualities, but also for her hospitality, creativity and intellect.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2:00 PM at Knox United Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bev may be made to the Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Luther Special Care Home, and extends special thanks to Jacqueline Horning, Bev’s personal caregiver since 2017.
