It is with great sadness that Gerry’s family announces his passing on August 9, 2020.

He is survived by his loving wife Dora; his daughters, Marlie (Stephen) Burtt, Denise (Jim) Corbett, Nicole (Bryan) Baughman, Andrea (Jeff) Bowling and Dora’s son, Shawn (Sarah) Iles; his grandchildren, Leslie, Alyssa, Lyndie, Hayley, Jillian, Isaac, Elliot, Nathaniel, Madeleine, and great grandchild Kylee and many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Raoul and Elvina Belec; his siblings and their spouses, Lea (Ross) Grundy, Rita Belec, Terry (George) Jaszan, Martin (Helene) Belec and Marie (Herb) Jaszan.

Gerry was born March 21, 1932 in The Pas, Manitoba and grew up on a farm near Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. His working career was in carpentry, construction, building products, specializing in windows and doors. Gerry loved having dogs around and had so many beloved companions over the years. He was a gifted singer and guitar player who sang in many church choirs. He loved carpentry, hunting, fishing, golfing, curling, camping, and gardening, picking blueberries and Saskatoon berries, square dancing and reading.

He was very community minded, was an avid volunteer in the church community with the Knights of Columbus, (Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, Chapter President, District Deputy) and many other good works. He was very handy, and was quick to help out with anything needed by friends and family. More recently, he loved participating with the exercise group at the Saskatoon Field House and the subsequent coffee time afterwards.  A very special thank you to the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for their wonderful care of Gerry.   In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Saskatoon Convalescent Home Foundation.

A private Vigil of Prayer will be Thursday, August 13.  Mass of Christian Burial will be livestreamed at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14.  Please go to Gerry’s obituary on the Saskatoon Funeral Home webpage and click on the link at the top to watch the Mass.  Rite of Committal to follow at Woodlawn cemetery.
