Obituary of Eva Barbara McVicar

Eva McVicar

January 31, 1926 – August 17, 2020

Eva's life journey ended peacefully on August 17, 2020 at Spruce Manor Special Care Home in Dalmeny.

It began in Glenside, SK where she was born to George and Sarah Moir, later joined by sister Peggy. The family remained on the farm until Eva was a young adult, then moved to Victoria, BC. There she met Donald McVicar, a handsome young solider from Colonsay, SK. They married in 1947, and farmed in Colonsay until Don's passing in 2000. Eva moved to Saskatoon in 2001 and lived within the St. Vlodymyr Senior Community until November 2019 when failing health led to her move to Spruce Manor. Don and Eva raised four children, Lois, Ron, Donna, and Heather. They were blessed with eight grandchildren who cherish their memories of times spent at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

Eva was a member of the Legion, and a volunteer librarian. She worked part time at the Post Office for many years. She was an active person, and went for long walks with her friends, ending at coffee row in Colonsay. Eva was known for speed walking (with her walker) at St. Vlodymyr, and continued with exercise sessions at Spruce Manor.

A special thanks to the caregivers at Spruce Manor who embraced mom with kindness, humor and a gentle touch during the final months, days, and minutes of her life's journey.

Eva is survived by her children, Lois Clark, Ron McVicar (Paula), Donna Eley (Warren) and Heather McVicar (Marc Sabourin). She is fondly remembered by her eight grandchildren, Jeff Clark (Michelle), Lisa Clark (Rob Bowser), Laurie Basaraba (A.J.), Lacey McVicar (Jeff Haesler), Danielle Reynolds (Jamie), Renée McVicar, Matthew Eley, and Allison Kerr (Jon). Eva also leaves behind fifteen great grandchildren who were beginning to gather their own special memories, as well as two grand dogs (Desi and Ty) to whom she delighted in giving a long distance cookie every night.

If you knew Eva, please take a moment to remember the times you spent together, and reflect upon a long life well lived.

A Graveside Service with her immediate family will be held at the Colonsay Cemetery on Saturday, August 22nd, 2020.
