Obituary of Melrose Eileen Petty

MELROSE EILEEN PETTY
Obituary
August 22, 1928 – October 18, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Melrose Eileen Petty (Osland) at the age of 92.

Melrose’s long journey of life began in Lashburn, Saskatchewan on August 22, 1928.  After attending Normal School (teacher’s college) in Saskatoon, she began her teaching career in Paynton, Saskatchewan.  It was there that she met and later married Patrick (Pat) Petty in August 1952.  When first married, Mel and Pat lived in Paynton and Lashburn, and then there was a move to Unity, Saskatchewan where Mel and Pat raised their family of three girls and where Mel taught elementary school for 27 years.  She was known for her amazing skills in teaching students to read “properly”.

Mel loved to entertain and especially enjoyed playing Bridge and Scrabble with her friends.  She also loved to read, listen to music of all kinds, work on crossword puzzles, and knit/crochet.  Upon retirement from teaching, and after the passing of Pat, she moved to Saskatoon where she enjoyed attending the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra on Sunday afternoons, attending the Persephone Theatre with friends, volunteering at the Mendel Art Gallery, participating in The Toastmasters of Saskatoon, and travelling the world.

Left to celebrate her life are daughters Lorraine (Glenn) of Stonewall, MB, Sheila (Vaughn) of Regina, SK and Norma (John) of Bonnyville, Alberta.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life…Jaimee (Paul), Justin (Nicole), Stephanie (Mike) and Danae (James), and great-grandchildren…Calla, Sophia, Lucy and Savannah, very special niece, Darlene Lamb, and two very special friends, Joan and Doreen.

Melrose was predeceased by husband (Pat), brothers, Rolf and Arthur, and sisters Edythe, Berna, Florence, Helen and Jean.

Thank you to the amazing staff at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon for the top-notch care provided to our Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com . Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577)

“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one….
I’d like to leave an after glow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long,
And cherish those very special memories to which I belong"
