Obituary of Elsie Malvina Stephan

Elsie Stephan passed away on April 1, 2021 at Stensrud Lodge in Saskatoon, SK.  Elsie was predeceased by: her loving husband and best friend, Arthur Stephan; father, Joseph Rue; mother, Ruth D’aoust; brothers, Henry Rue, Lorne Rue and Gordon Rue and sister, Sylvia Taylor.  Elsie was born in Young, SK. on March 2, 1924.  She started her schooling in Young and completed her schooling in Lyndhurst.  Elsie loved music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano.  She played for many country school dances and also won prizes at the A.C.T. Amateur Programs.  She lived with her family on the farm until 1944, then worked at the Young telephone switch board until 1945.  On September 23, 1945, Elsie married Arthur Stephan.  They spent that winter in Lethbridge, AB. and returned in the spring of 1946 to farm in Young district.  They purchased a house in Saskatoon in 1961, and continued farming during the summer until they sold the farm in 1973 to retire to the city.  Elsie was an active church member throughout her life; teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir, both at Bethel Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Church in Young.  Elsie also sang with the “Golden Years Group” for many years.  Elsie and Arthur enjoyed many trips and cruises.  Their extended tour to Europe was particularly memorable.  Elsie will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and all her friends.  For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made in Elsie’s name to Augustana Lutheran Church (1201 Broadway Ave S. / Saskatoon, SK. / S7H 2A4).  E-transfers can be sent to augustana@sasktel.net.
