Obituary of David Leonard Forsyth

On Monday, April 5th, 2021 David Leonard Forsyth passed away at the age of 72 with his sons by his side.  David is survived by: his wife, Gayla; sons, Gregg (Sasha) and Quinn (Margaret); grandchildren Owen, Clara, Emberlene and Lakelynne; and siblings, Jim (Phyllis) and Jean (Mel).  David was predeceased by: his parents, James and Opal; son, Neil; and granddaughter, Briar.

David was born on December 3, 1948 in Edmonton to Opal (Stonehocker) and James Forsyth.  He spent his formative years in Pierceland, SK, and is remembered by his siblings as an industrious lad with big ideas.

2021 marks 50 years of marriage of David to his wife Gayla (Owen).  David loved Gayla and worked hard to provide a wonderful life for their family, building two meticulously crafted homes in Martensville to raise their three sons.

Dave can be remembered as an expert on all things construction.  If you had a question, he had an answer and was there to help. He shared this passion as an Industrial Arts teacher.  David started out in Kindersley and Aberdeen, and spent the majority of his teaching career in Saskatoon at Walter Murray and Evan Hardy.

Forever the teacher, Dave spent his summers teaching his sons to build things; a house, a deck or a fence, but mostly he spent time teaching them how to sail.  He built a 30 foot sailboat on which the family would spend entire summers sailing on Lake Diefenbaker.

Dave’s life revolved around his family; he loved spending time playing games and enjoying food. As Dave’s family grew up, he found new joy in the smiles and antics of his grandchildren.  To most people Dave was the strong silent type, but to his family he was a loving father, stern parent, loyal husband and stubborn man with a problem solving spirit.

A private service will be held this summer.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan.
