Obituary of Edna Marie Ann Stepanek

Edna 1939-2021

Creator God, in your wisdom wrap your peace around those who die alone.

Receive our prayer.

Dear Friends:

I have the honour to inform you that our dear Edna died on April 30th at St. Paul’s Hospital after being hospitalized for over two months. After a great fight, all her systems finally failed.

Edna had no remaining immediate family, but she cared for many people, her special “clients”. As children we played together at family events and then we each went  our different ways. My mother’s two brothers married the sisters of Edna’s mother. So we were sort of related.

It was not until I retired and moved to my present condo in 2005 that we connected again. As was her practice with many of us, she would flood us with her garden produce and fine kitchen treats. And as some of you know, she took great pleasure in being a hostess at several  of my “Bon Voyage Gatherings”. In fact, she joined many of my tours and cruises.  The picture above was taken during a cruise to South America in 2012 when I was escorting a group as a staff person(Cruise Priest) on one of the excursions.

Covid-19 made Edna’s last days additionally difficult. Fortunately, Blair and Debra Holland in Colonsay kept an eye on her property, including “Tiger” her cat. That is a compliment as Edna did not  trust too many people! This probably became part of her life because after years of work for the inmates in the Prince Albert Penitentiary, as seamstress and crafts person,  she always remained cautious. Edna’s faith life, in spite of being brought up in the Roman Catholic tradition of her parents, was difficult to read. She often exhibited kindness to us and I have no doubt that she would understand our desire to do likewise.

We will, mostly for our benefit, gather at Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 2:00 PM for a meaningful graveside service and committal. For obvious reasons our gathering is limited to 30 persons. We kindly ask you to call  306 244 5577  or email Saskatoon Funeral Home at mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com and advise them of your desire to attend. It will be restricted to those who are the first to make their booking within the limited numbers allowed. An obituary will appear in the next couple of days at the Saskatoon Funeral Home website. www.Saskatoonfuneralhome.com
