Rita Lorraine Smith (Hogan)
Jan 19, 1936 - July 14, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Mother Rita Smith July 14, 2021 Mom was born to Aurore and Ben Hogan at St.Walburg Saskatchewan January 19,1936. She was the middle child having older siblings Douglas and Jeanne, and the younger Bernard and Lionel (aka Butch and Tootie).

Having lost their Father at a young age, Mom was tasked with helping to raise the younger boys and from stories shared - her hands were full. From raising brothers to feisty convent days she faced any difficulties head on. There was no backing down when it came to protecting her family back then and into present day. Mom began working in the bank at the age of 15 (she said she was 16). It’s here that she met her lifelong best friend Rosemary. Two crazy girls that had the most fun dancing and partying and keeping the boys at bay. In her final hour she managed to visit her best friend before departing this world. Rosemary was so excited to see her… And she was young again! How amazing is that?

Mom married the love of her life Bud Smith April 27 1957. They went on to have three children. Murray, Joe, and Jodie. Mom was an avid supporter of her kids. She was the team mom for many of the boy’s hockey teams. Many days were spent outside watching hockey and warming feet in the shack between periods. With her life as busy as three kids could make it, she still held a fulltime job. She worked at CIBC for what seemed like forever. She retired to look after Dad when he was ill. She did go back to work for her good friend Donna at Money Mart. She had so much fun!

We were blessed to have our Mother long enough to see not only her children grow up but her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.

Mom has gone on to join Dad, son Murray, and her family that had passed on before her. I am sure that there was a huge line up to welcome her.

Left to cherish her memory, son Joseph, daughter Jodie (Grant), grandsons Justin and William and great grandchildren Trine, Maddox and Brooklynn. Brother Lionel (Tootie) and Elinor (Lolly) and family. Numerous nieces and nephews. A huge thank you to my cousins Debra, Doug, Beverly and Bonnie for your support over the last few years. I also cannot fail to mention the wonderful neighbors and friends who had been there through thick and thin for Mom. Much love and respect to you all. She loved you dearly.

REST IN PEACE MOM… you earned it!
