It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Louis Schmid.

George was born September 25th 1924 in Cudworth, Saskatchewan. He grew up on a farm near Middle Lake Saskatchewan. In 1950 George married Marie Hoenmans.  They had seven children whom they raised in Saskatoon.

George received a Bachelor of Education (1958) and a Bachelor of Arts (1963) from the University of Saskatchewan.  He taught at various schools within the province.  In 1968 he accepted a position at Walter Murray Collegiate in Saskatoon.  He taught English there for 11 years until his retirement in 1979, after 35 years of teaching.

George was an avid gardener, enjoyed stamp collecting, carpentry and singing in choirs.  He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus.

George is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years Marie (2007), eldest daughter Judith (2019), his parents Louis and Mary Schmid, brothers Ray, Wilfred, and Alphonse. He is survived by his sister Frances,  his children Jim (Alana) Schmid, Matthew (Joan) Schmid, Audrey (Arie) den Boon, Clare (Brad) Refvik, Betty (Steve) Booth, and Paula (Garry) Power. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two on the way.

The Rite of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Tuesday August 24th, 2021 at 10:00 am.

The family would like to thank the staff in personal care at Trinity Manor for the kindness and care given to George over the past few years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation if so desired.
