Obituary of Lois Jean Hoiland

Lois Jean Hoiland

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Lois Jean (Schafer) Hoiland on February 4, 2022, in Saskatoon at the age of 93.

Lois was born in Fenton, SK, growing up on her parents farm and going to school in Birch Hills, SK.  She married Peder Hoiland in 1949 and together they had 5 children. Lois loved sewing and knitting, so kept her family in clothes and warm socks and mitts. Her hobbies over the years included bowling, painting, jigsaw puzzles and could spend hours lost in a good book. She also enjoyed endless card games with seniors clubs and friends. Over the years she made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.  She always had a project on the go.  Lois enjoyed working at the Sears store in Saskatoon for many years before retiring. She then lived at Candle Lake, SK. Later she moved to Prince Albert, SK, then spent the past 13 years back in Saskatoon.

Lois is survived by her daughter Darlene (Bryan) Ferguson, her sons Patrick Hoiland and Bill (Arlene) Hoiland, and her daughter Diane Hyslop.  She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and three sister-in-laws, Ilene Hoiland, Bernice Fjeld, and June Hoiland.

Lois was predeceased by her parents Fred and Grace Schafer, brother Robert Schafer, husband Peder Hoiland, daughter Janis Fonos and son-in-law Geoff Hyslop.

We would like to thank Luther Care Homes and Parkridge Care Centre for their excellent care of our Mom.

There will be a family graveside service in Birch Hills at a later date.

In lieu of flowers feel free to make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
