Obituary of Dorothy Ross

Dorothy Elizabeth Ross passed away on January 11th, 2016. She is predeceased by her parents Lester and Peggy Pope and by her Brothers Jim and David Pope and Brother-in-law Jack Medwed. Dorothy was born September 11, 1951 in Weyburn, Sk. She lived there until she married Joseph Albert Ross in November 1970. Their daughter Kimberley was born September 11, 1971. Due to Albert’s employment, they moved around the province over the next few years and settled in Saskatoon in June 1982. They divorced in 1985. Dorothy loved living in Saskatoon and being a part of the Pleasant Hill Community. She worked at Pleasant Hill School for many years as a lunch hour supervisor. When the school became a community school, Dorothy gladly took on the role as breakfast and lunch co-ordinator. She continued in that role until she retired in 2013. Dorothy was very active with the Pleasant Hill Community Association, CHEP and the Pleasant Hill Preschool. Keeping her community safe and the children fed were very important to her. Through this work, Dorothy forged many deep friendships. Next to her family, these friendships are what she treasured most. She enjoyed visiting with everyone as much as she could. Elaine Ogilvy and Dorothy had many meals together and a few trip out to BC and camping. Elaine was the dearest friend anyone could have asked for. These were cherished times to her. Next to Elaine, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with Dianna Michalcyia. Dorothy was a card carrying, bled orange NDP supporter. If you were not an NDP supporter, Dorothy would gladly take the time to explain to you why you were wrong. She was also a strong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays. Dorothy was diagnosed with salivary cancer in 2011. She had surgery to remove most of the tumors but unfortunately not all. The cancer remained in her body but Dorothy chose to ignore it and kept on living her life the way she wanted. In December 2015, it could no longer be ignored. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her daughter Kimberley, her son-in-law Guy Johnston (The Saint), her grandchildren Olivia and Samuel, her sister Margaret Medwed, her nephew Kevin Medwedand her dear friends….The family would like to express their great appreciation to the Nursing Staff on the 6300 ward at RUH and the Nursing Staff at Palliative Care at St. Paul’s Hospital. Their kindness over the past few weeks helped make a difficult situation bearable.
