Peter Kazakoff

With broken hearts, the family of Peter Kazakoff announce his sudden but peaceful passing at St. Paul’s Hospital on Saturday, October 1, 2022.  He passed away in his sleep surrounded by the love of his family and listening to his favourite music.

Dad was born to Joe and Julia (Popoff) Kazakoff November 17, 1936 on the family farm.  His early years were spent on the farm in the Petrofka area with the family moving in to Saskatoon in 1947.  He attended King George School and Saskatoon Technical Collegiate before joining the workforce.  After working a few different jobs, Dad joined Canada Post and retired from there in 1992 after 30 years of service.

He met our mom, Ellen Bagnall, in 1957, when they went on a double-date – each with different dates!  They married in August of 1959 and spent “63 wonderful years” doing everything together.

Pete had a life-long love of music (playing guitar and singing) and animals, enjoyed the outdoors, could build or fix almost anything, and in his younger years he liked to travel.  He built two additions on to the family home and six guitars.  Dad loved a good practical joke and telling stories, he could be stubborn as a mule, and while not demonstrative in his feelings, loved all of his family dearly.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Ellen; his daughters, Lynda (Terry) Kazakoff and Judy (Tom) Der; his grandchildren, Jasmine (Curtis Armitage) Der and Justice (Rachel Bobbitt) Der; his sister, Lillian; nephew, Jason; and many other brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Jasmine’s dog, Chester, whom he adored.

Given Pete’s love of animals, we would respectfully suggest donations to the Saskatoon SPCA in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to give special thanks to the compassionate and hard-working staff of 6th Floor Medicine and Emergency at St. Paul’s Hospital. They truly are unsung heroes.

Funeral services will be held from the Nostalgia Country Hall (5185 Strathcona Avenue, Riverside Estates) on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.  For anyone unable to join, the funeral service will be live-streamed.  To view the live-stream click on the link at the top of this page.
