Jill Elliott

Obituary of Jill Elliott

Our family is sad to announce that Patricia “Jill” Elliott passed away peacefully in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on December 19, 2022.  Proceeded by her parents, Florence and Thomas Garnham, sisters Juliette and Jane and nephew Stephen.  Forever loved by her children Melanie Elliott Acton (Bruce), Tom Elliott (Linda) and Caroline Elliott (Dr Joe Fogel), nieces Cathie, Laurie, Tricia, Becky, grandchildren Alex, Jessie, Kyle, Ethan, Tonya, and great grandchildren Robin and Madison.

Jill was born in Weymouth, Dorset, England in 1932 and lived through active WWII. Her father served in the Royal Navy in Ceylon.  Her family emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada when she was 15 years old.  Married Gerald Elliott, and moved to Caledonia in 1964.  Jill was always active in the community and built a career centered around helping others, especially empowering women.

Jill was involved in The Sims Locks Woman’s Institute, was an assisting leader for 4H Homemakers Club, a Girl Guide Leader in Caledonia and a Guider Trainer.  She followed her passion of swimming and earned many awards though Red Cross and the Canadian Lifesaving Society.  At age 35 she was thrilled to open the new Caledonia Lions Pool, the communities Centennial project.  She then went on to become the Aquatic Director of the Ottawa Street YWCA, and eventually the Branch Director of the YWCA of Hamilton.

Jill was outgoing, personable and a natural leader.  She excelled in teaching and mentoring youth, and always took pride in their achievements.

Jill found a lot of joy and adventure with her love Dr George Mann (d.Nov/22) traveling, enjoying theater, birding, skiing and camping.

Her family is grateful for her love and for sharing her passion for the outdoors and water sports.
