Obituary of Bayne Secord

Bayne Secord We sadly announce that Bayne Secord, age 80 years, passed away at St. Paul's hospital on February 27, 2016 after a brief illness. Born in Manitoba, his family moved to Richlea, SK to start a family farm. He attended Richlea School until Grade 11, then Saskatoon Technical Collegiate where he was chosen to skip curling teams coached by Ken Moir, who had a great knack for putting teams together. Bayne and his teammates won the Canadian High School Curling Championships in 1954 and 1955.In 1957, Bayne married his high school sweetheart Maureen and they returned to the family farm to raise their family. They farmed and spent 5 winters in Toronto, where Bayne was a curling instructor. Bayne and his teammates represented Ontario in the 1962 Canadian Men's Curling Championship. In 1987 and 1988 Bayne and his teammates represented Sask. in the Canadian Seniors Curling Championships. His high school curling teams were inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall Of Fame, Sask. Sports Hall of Fame and Legends Curling Honour Roll. His interest went beyond curling with baseball being his true passion. He loved coaching younger players in both baseball and curling. He was a lifetime member of the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame. He was also involved in the community, such as councillor for R.M of Snipe Lake, Eston Rec Board, Arabian Horse Associations, Sask Crop Insurance Board and was later appointed as Assistant Grain Commissioner for Northern Saskatchewan. In recent years, he enjoyed the fellowship of the Prairie Threshermen's Club at the WDM in Saskatoon. Bayne took great pride in farm life and raising a family with a strong work ethic. His love of horses found his family involved with an Arabian Horse operation that brought great joy for many years. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Maureen, children Brent (Marlene) Secord, Wendy (John) Dzurka, Laurie (Wayne Watson) Secord, Lesley (Brad) Welter and his beloved grandchildren, Vanessa, Jeffery, Tricia, Jessica, Landon, Sydney, Megan, Kendra, Riley, Haley and 2 great grandchildren, Jaycee and Jackson. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruce and Ivy, sister Betty and brother Ron. The family wishes to thank doctors, nurses and staff at St. Paul's hospital for their compassionate care

Funeral

A celebration of Bayne's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
