Obituary of Mary Alice Eberle

Mary Alice Eberle
September 17, 1928 – March 13, 2023

Mary passed away at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home on Monday, March 13.  She was 94 years of age. Born in Baldwinton, Saskatchewan in 1928, she was the eldest of three daughters born to Michael Hook and Alice Martyniuk.

After high school, Mary attended Normal School in Saskatoon, and was soon teaching in the Kerrobert School Division.   She continued to further her training at the University of Saskatchewan, and obtained a Permanent Teaching Certificate.  Her curiosity, love of learning, and sense of fun made her a wonderful teacher, and she cherished those years.

While teaching in Reward, Saskatchewan, she met a local farmer, Wilfred Eberle. They were married in 1950.  In 1954, they started their family.  Mary became a full-time mother and had already become a very integral partner on the family farm.  Three children completed the family (Thomas, Debra, and Jacqueline).

After a long and successful life on the farm, Mary embraced retirement.  She eventually moved to Saskatoon, and kept busy doing the things she loved… reading, playing piano, crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting, cooking and baking, and dog sitting whenever the opportunity arose.   She was kind and generous beyond measure, supporting numerous charities over the years.   We will remember her as a wonderful example and role model, and the best mother and grandmother one could ever have.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Wilfred (1998), her son Thomas (2009), and her daughter Debra (2015).

She is survived by her sisters Patricia (Mike) Mialkowsky and Bernice (Barry) Beazley, her daughter Jacqueline Eberle, granddaughter Sloan Lauinger, and son-in-law Garry Kraft and family.  She is also survived by cousins, and numerous nieces and nephews.

As per Mary’s request, there will be no funeral service.  Her ashes will be laid to rest at the Unity Pleasant View Cemetery beside her husband and children, at a later date. She will be in our hearts forever.

Special thanks to the entire staff of the Saskatoon Convalescent Home, for their care and support over the past two years.
