Anne Schabang

Obituary of Anne Schabang

Our Mother was born in Gruenthal SK, on June 3rd, 1941 to John and Agatha Reimer. She grew up on her family farm near Osler SK, along with her siblings, Betty, Jake and Barb.

She moved to Trail, BC, where she attended Trail Business College and obtained her General Office Certificate in 1964.

From there, she moved to Vancouver where she met our Dad, Alfred.  As the story goes, Mom was working in a café where Dad would have lunch.  I suppose it was love at first bite! They married on August 1st, 1970.  Shortly after that, Ingaly was born in Burnaby, BC, and in 1973 moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Renata came into the picture in 1974, and our whole family moved into our acreage southwest of Saskatoon, in 1975.

Mom worked in the food industry for the majority of her life and did a little bookkeeping on the side.  She opened a restaurant called The Lunch Express in Saskatoon’s north end.  We all literally worked for food and were proud to work with our mom!

Mom continued to work up until her retirement from Oliver Lodge.  After that, she pretty much took care of Dad full time until he went into a care home.  Dad passed in 2013.

In October of 2020, we placed mom in assisted living in (much to her dismay).  From there it was only a few short months and then we had to move her again to a private memory care home.  Mom, of course, was less than happy with the arrangements, or with us; but nothing that a glass of wine and some cookies couldn’t soothe.

In late August of 2023 she ended up in the hospital, and she remained there until there was an opening at a long-term care home in November of 2023.  She lived at Luther Special Care Home until her passing.

Mom was a very simple lady.  She didn’t have or want much, made do with what she had and kept a lot of her pain and suffering to herself.  Throughout her life she has been described as soft spoken, kind, always helpful and just a joy to be around. She loved all her family very much!  She showed her love through hugs, kisses, generosity and especially food!  She loved to garden, cook, bake, and to pass her knowledge to her grandchildren.  All her family has memories of being in her garden doing everything from picking strawberries, to pulling weeds.  It was good though, as we all got to sneak a carrot or two!

Mom, you are no longer living in the restraints of Osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s diseases.  We mourn your passing, however, are grateful that God has set you free!

We hope that we did a good job with taking care of you and carrying out your wishes.  We thank you so much for loving us unconditionally, teaching us and making us the people we are today. You are forever in our hearts!  We pray that you will watch over us and guide us throughout our lives and the lives of our children.

She is survived by her children, Ingaly Schabang (Henry) - Noah and Jaspar; Renata (Curtis) Moore - Brianne and Wyatt; stepson Allan Schabang - Christopher, Jennifer and Jeffery; step son-in-law Rocky Fiddler – Trevor, Michael and Alyssa, along with their families.

She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Alfred Schabang, her parents, John and Agatha Reimer, her brother and sisters, Betty Trayhorn, Jake Reimer and Barb Dyck, and her stepdaughter Alvina Fiddler.

We love you, Mama!  We will miss you more than you can imagine!
