Obituary of Eileen Wilson

Eileen Wilson 1925 - 2018 Eileen Wilson (nee Fletcher) passed peacefully at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon on February 7, 2018. She was born June 11, 1925 at Bill and Margaret Fletcher's farm home in the Allan Hills District, southeast of Saskatoon. Eileen lived there with her parents and older brother Jim until she finished Grade 10 at the local one room school, then boarded in Hanley to take Grade 11. Normal School in Saskatoon came next, then teaching for a year before returning to Hanley to finish Grade 12. She continued teaching in rural schools and in 1954 took a position in Penzance. Eileen met her husband John Wilson at the curling rink during the local bonspiel when she was chosen for John's team. They married on November 12, 1955. Eileen stopped teaching to work on the family farm and raise their two children. She grew a large garden, sewed and baked, along with helping out wherever John needed her. In 1976, John and Eileen moved to Saskatoon. Eileen filled her leisure time gardening, playing cards and board games, completing crosswords, and reading. She was an avid curling fan throughout her life. She also had a lifelong love of animals. Her faith was important to her and she devoted many hours as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of her UCW. She was also a long standing member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion. Eileen lost John in 2012. She is survived by her children Edward and Alice, both of Saskatoon, her nieces and nephews Roy, Diana, Gloria, and Don Fletcher, all of Saskatoon and extended family members in Ontario.
