Margaret “Rose” Magus

1942-2024

It is with heavy, but full hearts we announce the passing of Rose Magus.

Rose passed away suddenly on January 6, 2024 leaving to mourn her husband of 57 years, John; sons, Jay Magus (Erika Penz), Tim Magus (Shelley Chrunik) and Chad Magus (Kendra Schick); grandchildren, Sophia and Isabel Magus, Ewan and Harrison Magus, and Esme and Wynn Magus.

Rose was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Sam McEwan; sister, Valerie Nyssen; and brother, John McEwan.

Rose was born on November 2, 1942 in Saskatoon. She grew up in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood, and attended elementary school there before moving to Saskatoon Technical Collegiate for her high school years. She attended Teacher’s College and after achieving her teaching diploma taught elementary school in North Battleford, and W.P. Bate elementary school in Saskatoon. She and John moved to Aberdeen in 1978 to raise their family and she taught in Aberdeen, Clavet and the One Arrow Reserve before retiring in 2001. Rose was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and grandmother and inclusive of so many more people that came into her and John’s circle through family and friends, and the many sports teams her sons and grandchildren participated on. If you were coached by one of her sons in volleyball or hockey, or were a teammate of one of her grandchildren…you were on Rose’s team, and could do no wrong! She was warm and welcoming, and always had a genuine interest in the lives of her family and friends old and new, and quite often you would receive a new quilt, baby blanket, set of pajamas, or scarf as she was an avid sewer and loved to knit. Over the past several decades, Rose and John travelled North America cheering on their family in various sporting events. If Rose was not at the gym or rink, or at her sewing machine, her and John were at Lower Fishing Lake enjoying their cabin. They loved to host family, visit with neighbours, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of northern Saskatchewan. Many nieces, nephews, family friends and grandchildren have spent days and weeks there being well cared for by Rose. Her grace, kindness and unwavering love will forever live in our hearts. We were blessed to have her in our lives and will forever cherish the time we had with her and the impact she has left on us.

A Life Celebration for Rose will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 18 at the Saskatoon Funeral Home.
