Obituary of Shirley Joyce Hudson

Shirley Joyce Hudson, 84, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in the comfort of family on Friday, January 26, 2024 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

 

Shirley was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to William Ernest Hawkins and Lottie Gertrude Hawkins (Wallace) on January 20, 1940. She attended high school at Saskatoon Technical Collegiate on the riverbank in the south downtown area and went on to work as a secretary at Imperial Life Insurance in downtown Saskatoon. Shortly after beginning her career, she met the love of her life, Orville Harold Hudson of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, and they married on November 12, 1960. They raised four beautiful children: Bryan (Sherry), Dawn (Pat), Kevin (Michele), and Dean; and lived most of their life together in their lovely home on McKinnon Avenue in Saskatoon.

 

Shirley was a Navy Cadet and trained at HMCS Cornwallis in Halifax, Nova Scotia; and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice, joining the Sweet Adelines (Region 26) in the late 1950s and '60s.

 

Shirley is survived by her sister Doreen Girling; brother-in-law Glen Stewart; sister-in-law Beverly Brule (Joe); children Dawn, Kevin and Dean; grandchildren Travis (Whitney), Heather Bradshaw (Richard), Brody, Braydon, and Taylor, great grandchildren Kinley and Bennet (Bradshaw), and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by husband Orville (2013); daughter-in-law Sherry (2017); son Bryan (2023); parents William (1965) and Gertrude (1988); sisters Muriel Stewart and Jean Small (Don); brother Gordon (Ann); brothers-in-law Chuck Girling and Lloyd Gregory, and nephew Gary Gregory.

 

Shirley will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by family, friends, and her community. Her kindness, compassion, and loving support influenced so many others throughout her time in this world. Rest peacefully, beautiful soul …

 

The Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held on Friday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. from Saskatoon Funeral Home.  The service will be livestreamed.
