Mary Elizabeth Mierau “Betty”, 88 of Saskatoon Convalescent Home, passed away March 10, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Betty was born June 25th 1935 to Lenna and Jake Peters in Fairholme, Saskatchewan.  Betty’s family moved to Dalmeny Saskatchewan and started school.  She moved to Saskatoon in grade 9 and went to Bedford Road Collegiate.

Betty married Edwin Mierau on June 25th, 1954 and they had two children Bonnie and Marci.

Betty is survived by Bonnie Taylor (Jim), Marci Halliday (Randy), Jennifer Hlagy (Jay, Abby, Audrey), Kim Kelley (Brad, Paige, Tessa), and brother, John Peters (Irene).  Predeceased by husband Edwin Mierau, Sisters Marge Mierau, and Luetta Breit.

Before retirement, she worked at the University Credit Union.

Betty served on two boards, the Royal Purple and Saskatoon Aqualenes.  She volunteered thousands of hours to charity work and fundraising for family and community.  In her later years she knitted mitts, hats and neck warmers for inner city schools.

Betty enjoyed golfing with her husband Edwin, daughters Bonnie and Marci and her grandchildren Jennifer and Kim.  She dragged her grandchildren Kim and Jenn on many walk-a-thons in which both her grandchildren secretly loved as it was time well spent with their grandma.  She spent her Friday nights at Bridge City Speed Way taking in the races.  Betty loved word searches, jigsaw puzzles and long walks.  She loved vacations with her family especially at Emma Lake.  Her and Edwin were snowbirds and spent many winters in Arizona.  Both Betty and Edwin loved playing cards and socializing with family and friends.  Betty was a kindhearted soul who dedicated her life to her family and community.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, tributes can be made in form of charitable donations to Parkinson Canada or to the Alzheimer Society. Burial at a later date.
