Obituary of George A. Wilson

GEORGE A. WILSON August 25, 1922 - January 16, 2018 It is with sadness that the family announces that the death of George Wilson occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his residence Luther Special Care. George is survived by his wife of 72 years Marion, his three children Robb, Wendy and Scott and their families including 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous other relative. He was predeceased by his brother Eck. George was born to Sandy and Gladys Wilson in Beatty SK where he grew up and took his early education prior to leaving at the age of 18 to work for the Bank of Commerce in Melfort and then Verdon Manitoba where he met Marion. In 1941 George joined the Canadian Military in the Army Corps and served in England returning in 1945 and soon he and Marion were wed in August of that year. They settled in Saskatoon where they raised their family. George attended the University of Saskatchewan graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1949. He worked in the accounting field, real estate and was the General Manager of Boychuk Construction for many years until joining the staff at the University of Saskatchewan managing the finance and building maintenance departments for 17 years prior to his retirement. Singing was George's passion and for over 60 years he sang with multiple groups including the Choral Society, and numerous church choirs. For a number of years he sang Flanders Fields at the Saskatoon November 11 Remembrance Day Services. Marion was the horse rider with the Sandhills Riding Club and George was her willing partner at all the club socials and gatherings. He was an avid reader of the daily paper – front to back and he loved watching and following sports, most particularly the Roughriders, spending long telephone post game debriefings with his brother Eck following every game. In later years the Luther community and residence became a big part of the life of George and Marion when they moved to the Luther Tower and later Luther Special Care. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all those who provide such compassionate care for George.
