Obituary of Daryle Eugene Mogenson

MOGENSON, DARYLE EUGENE
February 19, 1930 – September 14, 2018

Daryle died peacefully at the Sherbrooke Community Centre, Saskatoon, at the age of 88. He was raised on a farm at Delisle SK, the eldest of 5 children born to Mildred and Albert (Happy) Mogenson. After school, Daryle farmed and also turned to other things such as painting some of the many wartime houses being built in Saskatoon. He met Kathereen (Kay) Van der Veen at a country dance and they married on June 15, 1956, starting their life together on a farm near Vanscoy. A few years of poor weather and hail damaged crops led to a move to Saskatoon where Daryle began work as a custodian for the Saskatoon Public School Board. He enjoyed this work for 30 years, but he never forgot his country roots. Daryle and Kay bought their first home in the city on Spadina Crescent West and later moved to an acreage in Grasswood, where he had a large vegetable garden, and was able to keep his horse Brownie. Later they enjoyed condo living until Kay’s death in 2013. Daryle spent his last years in care homes. Daryle and Kay loved to travel to western Canada with their tent trailer and also to Europe, Australia and Hawaii. Daryle avidly watched sports on TV and also golfed, curled and loved to dance. He was still enjoying card games at Prairie Spring Home before transferring to Sherbrooke Community Centre, shortly before his death. Daryle was predeceased by his wife Kay, his parents, sisters Bernice and Ilyne and brothers Gordon and Lyle. He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral service at Daryle’s request. Following cremation, he will be interred in the Columbarium (Garden of The Good Shepherd) at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
