Obituary of Catherine Isabel Ashley

January 18, 1922 to January 26, 2019.

It is with sadness the family of Isabel announces her passing on January 26, 2019, at the Saskatoon Convalescent Home in Saskatoon at the age of 97.  Isabel will be lovingly remembered by her daughters (Dorothy (Larry) Kittelson, Shirley Mann, Margaret (Phil) Chernetsky), Linda Ashley and Gail (Randy) Krohn); grandchildren (Karen (Brian) Dunham, Tannis Kittelson (Travis Markfelt), Richard Kittelson, Michelle (Mike) Bennett, Sheri (Bob) Hood, Noel (Melissa) Krohn and Melissa (Nathan) Halischuk); 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  

Isabel was predeceased by her husband (Harry Ashley (1982), her parents (Gordon and Annabel Gannon), her brother (John Gannon), in-laws (Ernst and Ethel Ashley), sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Violet and George Ashley) and son –in-law (Robert Mann).

Isabel was born in Eatonia, SK on January 18, 1922.  She lived in the Eatonia – Mantario district most of her life until she moved to Saskatoon in September, 2013.  She attended Royal Canadian School but left after completing Grade 10 as it was during the 1930’s and the school did not offer classes beyond grade 10.  While she was working in the Mantario district she met Harry Ashley who she married September 29, 1943.  They lived on a mixed farm until Harry’s passing in 1982, then she moved to Eatonia, SK.  Isabel was always involved in her community and its activities.  She was a member of the homemakers club, Laporte Ladies’ Aid, Couples Club, seniors’ ELM club and Square Dance Clubs.  She enjoyed volunteering where it was needed at fowl suppers, driving friends, special events and in her church. After her girls left home she became a Tupperware consultant for twenty-two years. Throughout the years she enjoyed quilting, sewing, playing cards, dancing, visiting with friends and neighbours, taking pictures and writing stories of the past. Some of her stories were published in the Senior Newspaper. Isabel always had time for coffee and a visit.  She enjoyed people and had a smile for everyone. Isabel’s family extend thanks to the Saskatoon Convalescent Home for the care they gave mum to make her last years’ comfortable.   In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Isabel’s name to a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Isabel’s life will be held in the Chapel at Saskatoon Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1 P.M.
