Obituary of Barbara Elaine Newlove

NEWLOVE, Barbara Elaine
1936 - 2019

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved Barbara (Barb) Elaine Newlove.  Barbara passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Extendicare Preston in Saskatoon on February 13, 2019.  Barbara was born on July 6, 1936, in Eston, Saskatchewan; daughter of Eldon and May (Saunders) Walper.  Barbara grew up in the Eston / Rosetown area along with her brother Barry and sister Marjorie. Barbara was an active youngster who was quick to join in fun activities with friends, taking part in sports and leading a very active and involved childhood. Barb had a brief career in banking, working with the Royal Bank in Eston. Following a brief courtship, Barbara married Joseph George (Chub) Newlove on November 1, 1957  in Saskatoon.  George’s career with the CNR resulted in many moves across western Canada with significant time spent in both Saskatoon and Winnipeg MB. Barb and George were proud of their two children, Kim and Blaine, both of whom stayed in close connection with them.   Barbara was very proud of her children, her daughter-in-law Lori, and her three grandchildren, Kelsi (Taylor), Grady (Amy) and Rylee (Derek).  She valued family and was always ready to support those around her; be they strangers or friends.  Supporting the varied endeavours of their children led to supporting many athletic and educational aspirations of their grandchildren.  Family was very important to Barbara.
Barbara was a very talented, creative woman.  As a youth, she was a skilled softball player and was invited to sing at special town occasions.  During her married life, she enjoyed many artistic endeavours including porcelain doll making.  Barb was so proud of owning and operating a Dairy Queen in Winnipeg in the late 1970’s.  These are but a few of the ways Barbara grabbed a hold of life.  She also had an affinity for learning all things medical – and so was naturally very proud when all three of her grandchildren developed careers in the medical field. Throughout Barb’s adult life, she was faced with periodic emotional challenges which played a part in, but did not rule, her life. Sadly, these challenges became complicated even more with the onset of dementia in the past 2 years. The family extends special thanks to the staff at Extendicare Preston for their gentle caring and concern for Barbara during her last fourteen months.  Barbara’s remains will be interred next to her father, mother and brother in Eston later this summer.  This will be a family graveside remembrance.
