On June 19, 2021, we lost a wonderful man who stepped from this life into eternity to be with his Lord and Saviour. Fred Schindel, 96, passed away peacefully with his family by his side.  Fred was a WWII Veteran, farmer, entrepreneur, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to many.

Born in Poland, at the age of two, Fred immigrated with his family to Leduc, Alberta where they spent two years before moving and growing up on the family farm near the village of Jansen, Saskatchewan.

After WWII broke out, he received his call to join the army and to serve his country.  After returning from overseas he continued farming at Jansen.

Fred took up winter employment in Regina where he met the love of his life Marlene Munn.  They were married in 1952 and had two children, Darrel and Brenda.  In 1965 they sold their farm and bought land near Regina. Fred also started a plumbing and heating business to subsidize his farming operation.  Fred and Marlene faithfully attended the Alliance church where he served in different ministry areas as well as several years as a deacon.

In 1992, Fred and Marlene sold their farm near Regina and moved to Saskatoon where he continued his plumbing business for several years until he retired.

Fred and Marlene loved adventure and travel vacations having fun downhill skiing, numerous trips to Vancouver, Hawaii and Arizona.  They enjoyed coffee and dinner out together or being with family and friends.

Fiercely independent and fueled with drive and determination, Fred was always active and loved life to the fullest in whatever he did.  Above all, he loved the Lord and prayed faithfully that his family and others would do the same.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene in April 2020; and is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Brenda (Brian); son, Darrel (Rhonda); granddaughter, Carey; grandson, Michael (Erica); great granddaughters, Livia and Mia; grandson, Christopher (Caitlin); and great granddaughters, Sadie and Gracie.

He will be greatly missed by his remaining siblings, Henry (Alma) and Mary; along with extended family and friends.

A private Graveside Side service will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The family invites you to view the recorded service which will be posted on Fred’s tribute page on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com where you my also leave condolences.
