Obituary of Linda Marlene Doege

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Linda Marlene Doege. She was cared for by staff at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon during her very short but tough battle. She left us peacefully on the early morning of July 17, 2021 with family by her side.

Mom was born in Watson, SK to Oscar and Beatrice Mierke. In a family of eight children, Mom was the second youngest.

Mom primarily worked in the food industry cooking and serving but also managing and owning a few restaurants as well. While married to our father LaVerne, she got to try her hand at farming and successfully grew a large poultry business. It was during her time on the farm that she discovered her love of gardening and grew massive flower and vegetable gardens. After many years of hard work and two bad shoulders, she went into early “retirement” but continued to stay very busy at our home in Radisson, SK, doing home renovations, tending to her flowers, and putting on the best outdoor Christmas displays for the town to enjoy.

Mom always said she felt like she lived 4 lifetimes in the 71 years she was with us. She had no fear in taking on new challenges and so experienced life to its fullest. With anything that Mom did, she more often than not excelled at it. Mom was blessed with so many talents and so had numerous interests like art, sewing, woodworking, and gardening and was proud of being skilled in areas she had no formal training in such as plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. She loved travelling and enjoyed many road trips across Canada and the United States. Above all though was her music. Singing was her ultimate passion. She performed in a band for a time and then later continued to sing for charity events, local jam nights, and best of all for her family, filling our home with her beautiful voice.

Mom will be remembered for being full of life, generous, hardworking, thoughtful, creative and fearless. Her endless talents and deep love for her children will not be forgotten.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Oscar and Beatrice Mierke, Her brothers Gordon and Lawrence Mierke, Sister Helen Mierke, and Granddaughter Desire Hockley.

Those left to morn her are: her partner Ernest Mayo, Daughters April Doege, Kari Doege (Phil Fontaine), Lori Sproule, Son Robert Brenner (Stacy), Grandchildren Samantha and Aaron Brenner. Siblings Bernice Laturnas, Kathy Lukonoff (Richard), Ken Mierke, Dwight Mierke (Margret) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday July 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
