Obituary of Verne Loyst Alldred

The family of Verne Alldred wish to announce his passing on Sunday, September 19 in Saskatoon. Verne was predeceased by his parents, Garnet and Ethel, his daughter Tannis and brother Keith. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his son Dale (Blythe) and grandson Dante and five siblings.

After high school, Verne entered the College of Physical Education at the U. of S. A very good athlete, he was active as a wrestler, winning at the Western Finals in 1965 and earning a Silver Medal at the Canadian Open Championship later that year. He continued wrestling as a referee at the national level for six years, including working at the World Championship in 1972 and the summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976.

In the fall of 1968, he joined the Phys. Ed. staff at Walter Murray Collegiate, and just before Christmas that year he and Sandra were married. In addition to teaching Phys. Ed., Verne coached football, wrestling, track and field, soccer, and volleyball.

After retiring in 1997, he worked as a volunteer with Community Health and on the executive of the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. For the last 15 years of his life, his physical abilities were severely hampered by Parkinson’s Disease.

The family deeply appreciates the care that Verne received in his final days at both RUH and the Hospice at Glengarda.

At his request, there will be no funeral. There will be a ceremony at the graveside for immediate family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
