Obituary of Allan Alexander McHarg

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our Dad and Grandpa, Allan McHarg, on Oct 4th, 2021 at the age of 94 yrs.

Dad was surrounded by his entire family for most of the day, sharing stories, memories and laughter.  He passed away peacefully at 2:15pm with Judy Lynn, Sandra and Rick by his side.

He was predeceased by his brother Wilbert, a day earlier on Oct 3rd, his wife Elsie in 2000, his parents and 6 other brothers and sisters.

Dad is survived by his children:  Judy Lynn, Sandra and Rick (Sonja) and his dearly loved grandchildren, Connor, Madison, Jacob * and Ashley, his brother Keith (Jean), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended families.

Dad was very active his whole life playing competitive fastball, hockey and curling, winning many trophies and awards.   He was an avid card player, enjoying kaiser, bridge and crib and always looked forward to the deck of cards being brought to the table.

He was a talented musician.  In his younger years, he played at many dances for packed small town halls.  He taught himself how to play the guitar, piano, violin and banjo so even if he wasn’t part of the band playing, if he was there and they needed somebody to fill in, he would often be asked.  Ever the entertainer, he enjoyed telling stories, doing card tricks, and playing music for all of his friends and neighbours right up until a few days before his passing.

Dad was given exceptional care over the last 2 years as his health started failing.   From the bottom of our hearts, our family would like to thank his health care providers, including Dr J. Parent and her team at the Community Clinic, the Seniors First care providers, Preston Park 1 retirement residence and Myrna and the incredible staff at Keedwell Manor where he spent his last 3 months.   Dad commented many times how lucky he was to have received the quality of care and love that everyone provided him.  Thank you!

Dad will be truly missed by all who knew him.

A private family service will be held at St John’s Columbarium where Dad will be interred next to Mom.

If you so wish, a memorial donation may be made in Dad’s honour to the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
