Vel Carey GUILMETTE
1956 - 2022

With sadness the family announces that Vel Guilmette passed away suddenly on August 29th 2022 in Saskatoon at 65 years old.  She is lovingly remembered and survived by her daughter Melissa (Cory) Beherns, grandchildren; Barrett, Briar, and Bella, mother Dorothy Herbst, brothers and sisters: Colette (Rob) Stang, Kim (Denise) Herbst, Georgette (Duane) Johnson, and Regan (Marci) Herbst and numerous nieces and nephews. She is Pre-deceased by her father George Herbst and her partner Michael Hagel.  Vel was born on November 24th 1956 in Unity SK to her parents George and Dorothy Herbst. She moved to Luseland at 3 years old where she went to Luseland school. As a child she enjoyed figure skating and swimming, and loved camping in the mountains and picking fruit in the Okanagan Valley. She spent her teenage years  working and having fun on the Herbst family farm.  After high school she moved to Saskatoon to attend the Licensed Practical Nursing program. After graduating she worked at St Paul’s Hospital. Following school and after working for a while she went on a trip of a lifetime to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. She travelled in the outback and then returned home to meet her first born nephew. She got married in July 1983 and had her daughter Melissa in 1986. She was married until 1998 and retired in 2008. She belonged to St Matthew’s Anglican Church and enjoyed participating in mass and visiting with church friends. Her favorite thing was to spend time with her grandchildren. She loved painting with her grandkids, taking walks by the river, being with her family, spending time at her sister’s cabin and enjoyed baking. She also loves animals, especially cats. A funeral will be held Saturday, October 29th at 1pm in Luseland, Sk at St Eugene De Mazenod Church with a luncheon following. Condolences may be left for the family at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com.
