Obituary of Erwin Hoehn

Dr. Erwin Hoehn 1931 – 2016 Erwin Hoehn was born in Schlierbach, Germany, in 1931. From his village, he was the only one of his peers to attend high school and later university. He began his teaching career in elementary school to finance his PhD in Mathematics, which he earned in Darmstadt, Germany. At teacher’s college, he met the love of his life, Ingrid, who he married in 1959. They moved to Canada in 1967 and Erwin began a long career at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Mathematics. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, active in the community including long service on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council. Erwin and Ingrid loved hiking, skiing, wind-surfing, canoeing, fishing, mountain climbing, and just hanging out at the cottage with family and friends. They also loved traveling and camping and ballroom dancing. Erwin was a long-distance runner with several marathons under his belt. He passed away peacefully at the Luther Special Care Home on January 19th, with his family with him. His love and companionship will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Ingrid; his children, Felix (Carol) and Katja (Larry); and his grandchildren, Jessica, Eric, Adrienne, and Stefan. Special thanks to the Luther Special Care Home staff, Dr. Ewa Olszynsky, and Pastor Mark Hedlin, who all went above and beyond the call of duty.
