Mona Chappell

August 15, 1934 - September 29, 2022

On Thursday, September 29, the world lost a bit of sass. Mona Beryl Chappell, beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother (“G.G. Mona”), passed suddenly yet peacefully.

Anyone who knew Mom would know that she lived life to the fullest and always to a jazz soundtrack. She laughed, she danced, she joked and she hugged. Boy, did she hug! She came by this zest for life honestly. It was a precious gift from her parents, Ken and Ila Drake, her two favourite people ever in the world. This gift has enriched the lives of Mom, her sister, Joyce, and every generation to follow.

She was a woman of many passions: music, golf, curling and the Riders to name a few. Another of her passions was giving. Through the whole of her life, Mom so generously gave her time, boundless energy and financial support to a myriad of worthy causes. And, of course, her greatest passion was her family. She loved all of us and everything about us and we knew it!

So, tonight, put on some Oscar Peterson and dance in your living room, alone if you choose. Raise a glass of single malt scotch and celebrate Mona’s life. Celebrate LIFE with everything you’ve got, as if you were Mona!

The formal celebration of Mona’s life will be held on Saturday, October 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 Fourth Avenue North, Saskatoon. For anyone unable to attend, live streaming of the service will be available on the Saskatoon Funeral Home’s website. Due to Covid, no reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Read Saskatoon or Friendship Inn. The family respectfully requests that masks be worn for the service.
