Obituary of Violet Agnes McCowan

With love we remember our Mother Violet McCowan of Saskatoon, SK who passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital on Tuesday October 25, 2022 at the age of 96.

Violet is survived by her son Robert Bruce McCowan of Surrey, BC, Brenda Lee McCowan, Patrick David McCowan and Carla Dawn McCowan (Darryl) all of Saskatoon, SK and her grandson Archie Johanson of Surrey, BC.

Violet was predeceased by her loving husband Archie Bruce McCowan on December 2, 1977 and her parents George and Agnes Parenteau and sisters, Lil, Pearl (Judy) Grace, Goldie and Alice.

Violet with her 5 sisters were born and raised on a farm near Mayfair, SK. At the age of 17 she attended teacher’s college in Saskatoon. Her first school was a one room with outdoor toilets. She taught kindergarten to Grade 8. After 8 years of teaching she went to Vancouver as a telephone operator, sales clerk and secretary.

She returned to Saskatoon where she met her future husband Archie McCowan. They were married June 17, 1955. After the birth of Rob and Brenda they moved to Surrey, BC. Pat and Carla were born there. After Archie passed away she came back to Saskatoon in 1981 to be close to her mother and sisters. She worked at Inland Audio Visual for 16 years. She retired at the age of 73.

Violet loved to play bingo, read, do crosswords, and play cards with her family. She took several trips with her sisters to Vegas and a bus trip down east as well. Her favorite passion was her family. She was a loving, caring, funny and amazing woman and mother and will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Violet’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the W.A. Edwards Family Centre (333 4th Avenue North – parking at the Saskatoon Funeral Home).

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to the Canadian Lung Association or the CNIB.
